Mell Square

March 20, 2025

Solihull has a vibrant town centre, with both Touchwood and Mell Square being an important part of the boroughs economic success. The development of Mell Square will ensure the town centre remains one of the very best places to visit in the UK.

The planning application for the development of Mell Square is now on-line and is well worth a look to see what is planned. There are 224 documents at present and we are sure there will be more to come in the fullness of time.

Planning reference: PL/2025/00547/MAJFDW refers to a – Hybrid planning application comprising full planning application for site clearance and demolition of all existing buildings and the construction of residential floor space and associated amenity space (Use Class C3), lower and ground floor commercial floor spaces (Use Class E), public realm works, hard and soft landscaping, access, parking, drainage, and all other associated works. Outline planning application, with all matters reserved for the site clearance, demolition and the construction of phased mixed-use development comprising of flexible residential and town centre floor space (Use Classes E, C1, C2, C3, F1 and Sui Generis), associated public realm works and landscaping, access, parking, drainage, and all other associated works.

You can gain access to all documents via the councils planning portal (enter the reference number): https://www.solihull.gov.uk/Planning-and-building-control

We have though posted quick links to some of the more interesting documents here:

Master plan schedule – this gives a breakdown of the schedule/timeline of the works: : PL_2025_00547_MAJFDW-MASTERPLAN_SCHEDULE-2238828.pdf

DESIGN AND ACCESS STATEMENT – this gives more details about the plans and how it is being approached: – PL_2025_00547_MAJFDW–DESIGN___ACCESS_STATEMENT_PART1-2239025.pdf

You will find the project is broken down into phases, with Drury Lane being phase one.

We will get more details as we move forward. We have no information as to when the matter will go before planning committee. It is important to note that some 1600 new homes will be delivered through the redevelopment of Mell Square.
