Dog Kennel Lane – A positive update

March 28, 2025

Both myself and Cllr Hawkins recently visited Tamworth Lane Doctors Surgery to discuss the proposed planning application for Dog Kennel Lane and the potential effects this will have on already extremely busy Primary care surgery.

We have posted a video below complete with a brief overview of our meeting, we hope this is both informative and helpful

The matter is yet to be determined but we suspect it will come before Solihull’s planning committee later this spring.

One matter we have been working on is access to primary care – doctors appointments. There is a valid complaint – that if residents can not get a doctor’s appointment now, how can they get one when there are hundreds of extra patients?

To this end we have met with managers and GP’s at Tanworth Lane surgery, and following discussions introduced them to developers, Taylor Wimpey. The surgery and Ken have also been in contact with the Birmingham and Solihull NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB – the body that funds medical services).

There can be no cast iron promise that a surgery will be built on the Dog Kennel Lane site. However, there is a willingness for Taylor Wimpey who can identify land for such use, a desire from Tanworth Lane surgery to have a surgery there and the Integrated Care Board to look at how they can support this. Developers will be paying something in the region of £2m in Section 106 payments for primary and secondary health care. This is claimed by the ICB.

We will follow this up and even if everything falls into place we are still talking about a few years before anything substantial in established. However, we will be pushing to ensure this can happen and feel all stakeholders here are pushing at an open door.

As with most large developments, the principle of the need for new homes is sometimes accepted but there must be the necessary infrastructure to go with it.
