Bridle Path Flooded in Dickens Heath

February 21, 2025

Thanks go to a resident from Shirley/Majors Green for highlighting this issue.

The map shows the location of the bridlepath, that leads from Dickens Heath Road, through green space and towards Bills Lane. There is a smashing circular walk, but unfortunately, as you can see from the video, there is a stretch that is completely impassable; even though the path has rock underneath.

Our Bridleways and footpaths are a great way of exploring our beautiful ward and play a part in our Well-being, whether you are a dog walker, rambler or enjoying a family walk its important these are maintained and accessible

We do appreciate we have had a lot of rain and fields are flooded, but I feel there is more to it and suspect the issue is water running from the nearby land, known as the Christmas Tree Farm. We are asking our flood protection officers and public rights of way officers to look into this. The walk is a valued green space and a few days of nice weather wont rectify it in the short term.

Update 6th March 2025

SMBC have been in attendance and jet cleaned under the Bridle path , they beleive this has cleared the issue, however we need a few more days of dry weather before they can be 100% sure .

They will continue to monitor the situation
