BLYTHE MATTERS – My first 15 months

August 31, 2025

Working Hard for Blythe Ward

Since being elected in May 2024, I have been fully committed to representing Blythe ward. I keep residents updated through regular social media posts, leaflets, and by meeting people face to face in their streets. I also attend parish council meetings in Cheswick Green, Tidbury Green, and Dickens Heath, where I share updates and answer questions directly.

From the very beginning, I hit the ground running. The Blue Lagoon story highlighted the need for clear communication and quick action, and I have carried that proactive approach into all areas of my work. Much of my time has been focused on planning and development, where I’ve worked hard to provide residents with openness, honesty, and clarity.

My Role on the Council

I am proud of my 93% attendance record at formal council meetings—one of the best among councillors. Considering holidays and illness, this is a strong achievement that reflects my commitment to representing you.

In addition to attending Full Council, I sit on the Licensing Committee and serve on two scrutiny boards. I am Vice Chair of the Stronger Communities and Neighbourhood Services Scrutiny Board and a member of the Children’s Services & Education Scrutiny Board.

Both boards deal with crucial issues affecting residents across the borough. My background as a teacher has proved invaluable, allowing me to bring real-life experience into discussions on education and community priorities.

Planning and Development

As someone who has lived in Blythe ward for over 40 years, I know the pressures our communities face from large-scale housing proposals. That is why I believe any development must be backed by strong infrastructure, including schools, doctors’ surgeries, and improved transport links.

I have already met with developers and NHS representatives to secure a new medical facility alongside proposals for Dog Kennel Lane, while pressing for firm commitments on traffic mitigation.

I have also called for a comprehensive Master Plan for Cheswick Green, Tidbury Green, and Dickens Heath before any further applications are approved. Too often, speculative developers attempt to bypass the council’s local plan process, and I will continue to challenge them at every opportunity.

Staying Connected Through Social Media

One of the most important parts of my role is keeping in touch with residents. That’s why I use social media every day to make sure you can contact me quickly and easily.

My website (www.keithgreen.co.uk) and Facebook page (Cllr Keith Green) are regularly updated with news, videos, and announcements. I am also an active member of several large community Facebook groups:

The Only Way is Cheswick

The Only Way is Dickens

Blythe Residents

Blythe Valley Residents Group

Blythe Valley Residents Association

Tidbury Green Village

Tidbury Green Community Action Group

Together, these groups include thousands of residents. Through them, I share fast-moving updates, planning news, and important local information. I also respond quickly to messages and questions. This approach has improved communication and helps me remain transparent, visible, and accountable as your local councillor.

A Message to Residents

It has been a privilege to serve as your councillor for the first 15 months. I am grateful for the conversations I’ve had with so many of you on the doorstep, online, and at local meetings.

Blythe ward is a special place, and I am determined to protect its rural character while ensuring that communities have the services, facilities, and infrastructure they need.

I will continue to fight for a fair deal for our villages, challenge speculative development, and make sure your voices are heard loud and clear in the council chamber.

Thank you for your support. Together, we can make Blythe ward an even better place to live.
