Solihull Council – Ward Boundary Review

We have reported on this issue a few times since the review began, in August 2023. The Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) have today published its final recommendations, which will now go before parliament for them to approve. Elections incorporating the new ward boundaries will take place in May 2026.
You can find out more abut the process as to how we have reached the position by reading the LGBC website: A new political map for Solihull Council | LGBCE
For us, here in Blythe, Monkspath and Hillfield and St Alphege, the changes are significant.
Due to Blythe ward being the largest ward in the borough (by far), Monkspath will be removed from Blythe ward and will merge with parts of the current St Alphege ward. Essentially, this is the whole of Hillfield and roads near to the church itself. Areas near to Blossomfield Road will merge with the existing Shirley East ward. There are a few other movements and they can be found by examining the maps on the webpage.
Thus, a new ward will be created, called St Alphege with Monkspath & Hillfield.
What happens next?
There will be no sudden change. Not all 17 wards in the borough has such significant changes but most are affected one way or another. Those councillors elected will remain serving their existing wards until May 2026, when all 51 councillors positions will be up for election. We last went through this process in May 2004 when Blythe ward created.
We can probably say on behalf of all political parties that they will soon establish candidates for each ward and as we near the election date in 2026, further campaigning activity will follow.
